Jeffrey Zaslow
Senior Columnist for The Wall Street Journal
January 19, 2010
7:30-9:00 am
Townsend Hotel
100 Townsend Street, Birmingham, MI 48009
Jeffrey Zaslow is a senior columnist for The Wall Street Journal. Prior to writing the current best seller, The Girls from Ames, he was co-author of the international bestseller The Last Lecture and is co-authoring Highest Duty, the autobiography of Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, set for release in fall 2009. Zaslow's many TV appearances have included The Tonight Show, Oprah, Larry King Live, 60 Minutes, The Today Show and Good Morning America. Jeff will share lessons he has learned from the last lecture and from interviewing dozens of ordinary people who make an extraordinary difference through the choices they make. While The Wall Street Journal covers the heart of the financial world, Zaslow tends to the hearts of its readers. There are a thousand emotionally charged transitions that people face in their lives, and most come without a roadmap. That's the territory of his column - from finding a spouse to losing a job, from a child's first crush to an old person's last wishes. Don’t miss this powerful presentation!

Today’s environment demands innovation, global perspective, collaboration and growth. Why do some organizations create and sustain positive momentum in leading strategic change while others make a great start but fail to execute? Hint: It starts with a highly engaged approach and inspirational leadership team. Dr. Jacqueline Stavros has co-authored the recently released book SOAR-Building Strengths-Based Strategy (www.thinbook.com) . As one reviewer wrote: SOAR will replace SWOT. Masterful in its simplicity, this book captures the essence of strengths-based planning in a way that any business could readily adopt. SOAR stands for Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, and Results. This is a whole system approach to strategic thinking, planning, and executing that harnesses the positive energy and desire embedded in every organization. SOAR provides a flexible framework for strategic planning that has universal application to any business dilemma. Meet the author and her colleague Clarence Rivette who both teach SOAR to their students at LTU and apply it within their client systems. They will share with you how strategy can be everyone’s job. You will learn the technique, and apply this in your work today!
Lessons in Personal Growth- An Appreciative Coaching Perspective for Leaders
Jacqueline Binkert, Ph.D.
Author and Executive Coach
April 21, 2010
7:30-9:00 am
The Management Education Center
811 W Square Lake Rd., Troy, MI 48098
Author and Executive Coach, Jacquline Binkert, Ph. D believes that what you pay attention to grows. This belief underlies the core of Appreciative Coaching, a strengths-based approach to change with its roots in Appreciative Inquiry. Built into the Appreciative Coaching perspective are five key principles that Jackie will share: we are mysteries to be appreciated (Constructionist Principle), we need to grow the positive for inner balance (Positive Principle), all change happens in the present (Simultaneity Principle), we are not resistant to change but to being changed (Poetic Principle), and the future begins where we are (Anticipatory Principle).
You will experience these principles as well as some of the tools and techniques Jackie uses with her leadership clients to help them embrace their own capacity to flourish and create the future they most desire. These client stories and examples will clarify how the appreciative approach helps leaders shift their attention to be at their best and to inspire peak performance not only in themselves but in those they lead.
