Kick-off Retreat
The Leadership Oakland class will participate in a 3-day, two-night retreat where participants are provided an overview of the region and its challenges, insight into their own leadership style, and an opportunity to get to know their fellow Leadership Oakland classmates.  They will also set goals for their year in the Leadership Oakland Cornerstone program.

Economy & Government Session
Economy: This session will look at the local and global economy and the economic impacts facing Oakland County and Southeastern Michigan. Government: How does it all work? Local and regional elected official will share information on local and county governmental structures and responsibilities in the region.  

Health & Human Services
The challenges facing the County's human services agencies and health care institutions will be the focus of this session. An on-site visit provides additional opportunity to learn about this critical issue. 2009-2010 Session sponsored by:


Media
This session will put Leadership Oakland participants face to face with members of the media, who will explain the ins and outs of whatís news and why.   
 
Race & Ethnic Diversity
Building an increased awareness, understanding and sensitivity to race and ethnic diversity issues is the focus of this session. Participants explore the impacts of diversity and race on the region, as well as personal and professional relationships.
   
Justice System
Hear first hand from those involved in the criminal justice system. This session will explore the process as well as the challenges facing the adult and juvenile justice systems in Oakland County.

 
Education
How has education evolved and what does the future hold for tomorrow's students? A respected panel of educators will discuss the many issues facing educational institutions in our community.
    
Arts & Entertainment
The significance of maintaining and nurturing a broad spectrum of arts & entertainment activities in our community will be the focus of this session. On-site visits and presentations allow Leadership Oakland participants to experience the value of arts and entertainment first hand.
 
Shaping the Future
What does the future hold for Oakland County and Southeastern Michigan?  Participants will take the knowledge and insights they have obtained throughout the program to develop their personal plan of action to tackle some of the regionís most critical challenges.
 
Graduation
Leadership Oakland participants and their guest are invited to celebrate the completion of the Cornerstone Program and the participantís commitment to contained leadership.
