Michigan’s Defining Moment – Making it Happen

Phil Power, founder of The Center for Michigan, an organization dedicated to the advancement of the state, will be the featured speaker during “Michigan’s Defining Moment – Making it Happen” breakfast event at 7:30-10 a.m., Thursday, May 27, at the Westin Hotel, 1500 Town Center, Southfield, MI. Free parking is available.

Power will focus on what he sees as the future of Michigan and what his organization is doing to advance the state through Michigan’s Defining Moment Public Engagement Campaign, led by The Center for Michigan. The campaign is a multi-year effort to heighten public awareness about the significant challenges and opportunities Michigan faces. Through the campaign, the center hopes to tighten the focus of statewide leaders toward a common ground agenda best suited to help the state achieve a new era of sustainable prosperity.

The event is sponsored by Leaders Without Borders, a group of area leadership organizations and programs from southeast Michigan and southwest Ontario who joined forces in the spirit of regional cooperation. The partners include Leadership Detroit, Detroit Orientation Institute, Leadership Macomb, Leadership Oakland and Leadership Windsor/Essex. Since its inception in 2002, more than 3,000 leaders have united to provide opportunities for networking and education on regional issues and challenges.

Desiree Cooper, senior analyst, New Media, City Connect Detroit, will moderate and Kurt Metzger, Data Driven Detroit (D3) director, will offer an opening presentation.

Established in 1990, Leadership Oakland is a 501 (c)(3) organization focused on business and community leadership development. Leadership Oakland is a member of The Community Leadership Association. The organization provides a nine-month community leadership Cornerstone Program to participants from businesses, organizations and governmental agencies that are selected based on an application process. The organization continues to provide educational and networking opportunities to alumni after graduation from the Cornerstone Program. Leadership Oakland graduates are key business and community leaders serving as catalysts on boards of various organizations throughout the region.
