Leadership Oakland Cares - Purple Ribbon

In 2006, 100,958 domestic violence victims were reported in Michigan. And those are just the ones that reported it. As domestic stress escalates, so does domestic violence. This month, all over the country advocates, government officials and community members rally in support of ending domestic violence. They are wearing purple ribbons as a sign of their commitment to organizations like Haven in Oakland County.

Show your support. Visit www.haven-oakland.org or www.carehouse.org to learn about these important community agencies and learn how you can help.

In the past couple of years, it seems that more or our members are suffering from cancer and share their stories with me. These members report that it is a tough journey to get through the treatment and finally hit the “survivor” milestone.

This month is Breast Cancer awareness month. Sometimes I think it should be renamed because all of us have been touched in some way by this disease. We are well “aware” of it. But awareness has led to early detection and treatment, more dollars raised and donated, increased commitment to research, and, ultimately, increased survival rates. We are making strides but MUST do more. Do your part this month and every month. You know what to do. Just do it.

On November 18, 2008, join Leadership Oakland as GM Vice President Diana Tremblay presents “Innovative Leadership: Historical Implications” and gain a powerful perspective on what it takes to be an innovative leader.

Diana Tremblay, Vice President of Labor Relations for General Motors North America has been recognized as one of Detroit’s most influential women by Crain’s Detroit Business.  Tremblay led the GM team that negotiated the 2007 UAW Agreement. When implemented, it transformed the US Business Model on many fronts.  The Center for Automotive Research called this contract “as historic as the original organizing of the Big Three by the UAW.”

Diana will give a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it was like to be in the lead on the contract that will shape the way the Big Three moves forward over the next five years.  She will discuss some of the challenges of implementation, especially in today’s rapidly changing business environment, as well as offer insight into where she sees GM headed in the future.
