Endurance: Four keys to resilience in challenging times

Psychologists define resilience as the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, or significant sources of stress—such as family and relationship problems, serious health problems, or workplace and financial stressors.  2020 has served up all this and more, impacting our ability to stay positive and believe in possibilities when the look forward is still uncertain.

In 1914, at the peak of Europe’s fascination with polar exploration and on the eve of Britain’s involvement in World War I, Ernest Shackleton and a crew of 27 men set out to be the first to traverse Antarctica. Similar to 2020...things didn’t go quite as planned.  The experience of these men typifies four important keys to resilience and (spoiler alert) helps to explain how the crew survived extraordinary, constantly changing uncertain circumstances not unlike those we are navigating today.
