Leadership Oakland announces ‘Leader of Leaders’ 2021 award winners

May 6, 2021- Auburn Hills, Mich.- Leadership Oakland will recognize multiple top community leaders with its top recognition, the “Leader of Leaders” award. Winners will be honored at a virtual event presented by Chief Financial Credit Union on May 20 from 5-7 p.m. Anyone can register to attend on Leadership Oakland’s website.

The Leader of Leaders Awards identify outstanding LO Alumni members with impressive achievements personally, professionally and/or in their public lives.

The recipients of this year’s awards are:

Personal Leadership

Valiena Allison, Philanthropist, Allison Family Foundation- Valiena is involved with many charitable organizations and has had tremendous success in the business world. Her foundation has provided safe drinking water to the village of Ntungamo. She also volunteers with the Troy Community Foundation and her family foundation recently provided meals to Beaumont Hospital, Troy workers. Valiena serves on the Economics Advisory Board at Oakland University and is a graduate of Leadership Oakland’s 27th Cornerstone Class.

Professional Leadership

Kris Ray, Principal, Plante Moran- Kris is the Not-For-Profit (NFP) Industry Technical Leader at Plante Moran. This year has been extremely challenging for her nonprofit clients. Through her leadership, her NFP staff, clients and contacts have received much needed information and support. Kris is also a leader of Plante Moran’s PM Pride Staff Resource Group, a group that helps with the recruitment, retention and advancement of LGBTQ+ professionals and allies. The group also advocates for the LGBTQ+ community at large and encourages involvement from all Plante Moran staff. Kris is a graduate of Leadership Oakland’s 26th Cornerstone Class.

Public Leadership

Cheryl Boodram, EVP Sales & CMO, Chief Financial Credit Union- Cheryl is always volunteering and looking for ways her employer, Chief Financial Credit Union, can give back and support the community. Cheryl has worked on projects for the DIA, Rochester Hills Public Library, Pontiac Community Foundation, Fleece and Thank you, HAVEN and The Baldwin Center. Cheryl is a graduate of Leadership Oakland’s 29th Cornerstone Class and a current member of the Board of Directors.

Pinnacle Award

Leigh-Anne Stafford, Director, Health and Human Services for Oakland County- Under Leigh Ann’s leadership, the Health & Human Services Department has protected Oakland County during the global COVID-19 pandemic. As the Health Officer for the county, she has helped to develop and refine the public health strategies needed to curb the spread of the pandemic. She has built and maintained significant partnerships across county sectors that have resulted in swift and efficient COVID-19 case investigation, contact tracing, testing and vaccination processes. Under her direction, the Oakland County Health Department has administered 215,245 doses of COVID-19 vaccine through April 5th, 2021. Her team’s efforts have had a tremendous impact and saved numerous lives.

President’s Award

Jennifer Korman, LOXIX, Project Management Office at Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, and Patricia Blount, LOXXIII Director, Ambulatory Rehabilitation, Sleep Centers, Neurological Recovery Systems at Ascension Health, will be honored for their exemplary leadership of the Leadership Oakland Board of Directors throughout the pandemic.

Leadership Oakland will also recognize and celebrate its former Executive Directors, including Dawn Magretta, LOIX, Chris Scharrer, LOIX, and Nancy Maurer, LOXXV.
