The Leadership Oakland (LO) Board of Directors has announced the selection of Nancy A. Maurer as its new Executive Director. Maurer assumes the role from Chris Scharrer, who is retiring after more than 10 years of service.
Maurer joins Leadership Oakland from Beaumont Health where she served as a co-lead for Talent Development integration efforts and Senior Leadership Development Specialist. Her professional background includes expertise in strategic planning, program development, talent and organizational development, diversity and inclusion initiatives, public relations/communications and non-profit experience. Prior to returning to Michigan in 2012 for the role at Beaumont Health System, Maurer spent nearly 20 years in Cleveland working in the healthcare, public relations consulting and broadcasting sectors. She holds an MBA from Ashland University in Ohio and a bachelor’s degree in Communications from Saginaw Valley State University.
“It is a tremendous privilege and opportunity to serve and lead this strong and respected organization,” said Maurer, who is also an LO XXV graduate. “I am committed to carrying on the great legacy Chris (Scharrer) has established as we continue to prepare business and community leaders to tackle the ever-changing issues and opportunities facing our region.“
“It has been a great honor to have led LO for the past 10 years and witness its growth as a regional resource,” stated Chris Scharrer. “Nancy’s background and enthusiastic commitment to LO made her the perfect fit to lead it going forward. I have no doubt the organization will be a success in the capable hands of the staff, board and many volunteers dedicated to its mission.”
