Leadership Oakland’s thirty-first class kicked off their leadership development experience on September 13, 2020.

In the tradition of Leadership Oakland’s drive to create and develop servant leaders, the retreat concluded with a virtual team building experience that resulted in a financial donation to a terrific organization called, HAVEN. The event took place on September 15, 2020 via video conferencing!

Leadership Oakland worked with Impact 4 Good (www.impact4good.com), a company that runs socially conscious team building programs, to plan an event that would be competitive and fun for socially distancing participants, while making a difference. The program selected was called “The Great Give Back Game Show.” During the activity, approximately 38 participants divided into six teams and competed in a challenging video trivia game show utilizing their computers and smart devices to earn the right to steer a financial contribution to the nonprofit organization their team was representing! In total, six organizations were being represented and awareness was raised about each one! Once the game began, points were awarded for correct answers, as well as bonus points for the fastest correct answer! After the points were tallied, it was announced that the team playing for “HAVEN” had won the opportunity to send them a $250 donation.

“Our team was thrilled to compete on behalf of Haven and grateful to Leadership Oakland staff for staging the friendly competition,” said Mark Huizenga a current participant in Leadership Oakland’s Cornerstone program. “The event was a wonderful way to learn more about valuable non-profits in our community, bond with other servant leaders, and exert bragging rights over our cohort!”

HAVEN is Oakland County’s only comprehensive program for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. HAVEN provides shelter, counseling, advocacy and educational programming to nearly 30,000 people each year. They have the mission to empower survivors to heal and engage all individuals and communities to address and prevent sexual assault and intimate partner violence.

Aimee Nimeh of HAVEN said, “HAVEN is grateful for the support of our partners at Leadership Oakland. Their commitment to inspiring leaders to learn, engage, and act is paramount to ensuring that we can achieve our mission into the future.”
