Meet LOXXXVI
Leadership Oakland’s 36th Cornerstone class represents the next generation of regional leaders committed to strengthening Oakland County and beyond. Comprising professionals from diverse industries and organizations, this cohort is engaged in a transformative nine-month journey through Leadership Oakland’s flagship Cornerstone Program.
As part of their leadership development experience, LOXXXVI participants collaborate on a meaningful community service project that puts their skills into action. This year, 50 classmate volunteers will come together to support Oakland HOPE through hands-on service and community fundraising.
2026 Day of Service
Through the 2026 Day of Service, Leadership Oakland XXXVI will mobilize 50 volunteers and provide a $10,000–$20,000 grant to support two interconnected outdoor projects at Oakland HOPE’s Pontiac campus.
Fresh Food Garden Expansion
The first project will significantly expand Oakland HOPE’s Fresh Food Garden by adding 22 new raised garden beds and planting existing beds for the spring and summer growing seasons. Volunteers will repurpose donated wooden pallets to construct the beds, fill them with soil, and plant vegetables and herbs.

– Creates hands-on education opportunities for local residents and students
Community Mural
The second project focuses on beautifying the thrift shop donation area through a large-scale outdoor mural designed by a local Southeast Michigan artist. The mural will create a welcoming visual enhancement for donors and volunteers while supporting Oakland HOPE’s thrift store—the primary funding source for food pantry operations.
Future Goals
If additional funds are raised beyond the initial grant, Oakland HOPE plans to further expand the garden, invest in irrigation and storage solutions, and increase community education and volunteer engagement around food access and nutrition.
About Oakland HOPE
Founded in 2013, Oakland HOPE is Oakland County’s largest food pantry and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving neighbors in need. Operating five days a week, including Saturdays, Oakland HOPE provides free weekly groceries, practical resources, and compassionate support to Oakland County residents living at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.
