Pontiac, Mich. – Leadership Oakland’s Cornerstone Class LOXXXIV teamed up with E-Community Outreach Services this year to create a “member store” and launch a mobile resource unit.
E-Community Outreach Services supports more than 500 families a month, helping them navigate a maze of financial strain, community and state resources, transportation barriers, food insecurity, and more. Many of these working families are facing economic strain and E-Community is stepping in to fill in the gaps.
“The Day of Service becomes the pinnacle of our Cornerstone Program at Leadership Oakland, allowing each cohort to collaborate and give back to an Oakland County nonprofit,” said Susan Hollady, Leadership Oakland executive director. “It is such an honor to facilitate a group of 48 professionals to not only learn about our community but then to dive in and see where they can make a real and lasting impact.”
Under Leadership Oakland’s Cornerstone Program, each class chooses a Day of Service project. The class seeks donations and assistance from local organizations as well, and then works as a team to bring the vision to reality.
For E-Community Outreach, this year’s class worked on May 4, creating a store for members stocked with diapers, formula, cleaning supplies and other essentials – filling the gaps left by assistance programs and empowering families. They also launched a mobile resource unit – restoring a donated school bus — to help break down transportation barriers, meaning underserved neighborhoods could have access to services such as community and state resources.
This year’s class raised more than $22,000 toward the two projects to support E-Community’s mission to EDUCATE, EMPOWER, and ENGAGE families. E-Community and its parent and women’s empowerment resources are all dedicated to providing a wealth of community resources, empowering programs, and unwavering support. Their goal is to empower families, enabling them to unlock their full potential.
